What is an Ultrasound?
Ultrasound, also known as sonography, is a safe, painless, and non-invasive imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to create live images of the inside of the body.
🔹 Why is Ultrasound Done?
Ultrasound helps doctors to:
- Visualize internal organs like the liver, kidneys, gallbladder, pancreas, and bladder
- Examine pregnancy and monitor fetal growth
- Assess thyroid, breast, scrotal, and musculoskeletal issues
- Guide procedures like biopsies or fluid drainage
- Detect cysts, tumors, stones, or infections
🔹 Is it Safe?
Yes. Ultrasound does not use radiation, making it safe even for pregnant women and children.
🧭 How to Prepare for an Ultrasound?
- Abdominal USG: Fasting for 6 hours is usually recommended
- Pelvic USG: A full bladder is required; drink 4-5 glasses of water 1 hour before the test
- No known side effects or pain
