🔹 What is BAEP?
Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potential (BAEP) is a non-invasive test that measures the brain's electrical response to sound. It helps assess the functioning of the auditory nerve and the brainstem pathways that carry hearing information to the brain.
🔹 Why is it done?
BAEP is useful in diagnosing:
- Hearing loss in infants and children
- Acoustic neuroma (tumor of the hearing nerve)
- Multiple sclerosis
- Brainstem lesions or stroke
- Neurological conditions affecting the auditory pathway
🔹 How is the test performed?
- Small electrodes are placed on your scalp and earlobes.
- You will hear a series of clicking sounds through headphones.
- The machine records how your brain responds to these sounds.
- The test is painless, takes around 30–45 minutes, and requires no special preparation.
🔹 Is it safe?
✅ Yes, BAEP is:
- Completely safe
- Radiation-free
- Painless
- Can be done in children and adults
